Liver cancer is the sixth most common cancer worldwide and is the fourth cause of death among all cancers.  Most liver cancer patients receive diagnosis at an advanced stage, when transplants or surgery are no longer practical nor possible, and many other available treatments are not effective. Among liver cancer patients, alternative treatments to transplants or surgery only provide a seven percent survival rate, showcasing the urgent need for safer and more effective liver cancer treatment methods. 

Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) is an emerging cancer treatment method that has been utilized by doctors to treat head & neck cancer, brain tumor, and melanoma patients.  The medical teams at the Taipei Veterans General Hospital and the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan performed more than 300 BNCT treatments for end-stage cancer patients, and the results were encouraging. About 17% of the treated tumors disappeared, and 43% of the treated tumors significantly reduced.   

Currently, BNCT is still a new therapy for cancer treatment and there are many thing to be done; for example, more BNCT treatment centers, new boron-10 delivery drugs, better treatment planning systems, and the awareness of BNCT in the medical systems. It is BNC Medicals’ goal to advance BNCT technology and to promote BNCT worldwide.
